3 Areas Commonly Missed during Spring Cleaning

Hello, spring! Finally, the bitter winter cold of Indiana is letting up and we have warm weather to look forward to. For many homeowners, the warmer weather brings with it the itch to clean out all the winter dust and grime, and start fresh. Our team at Christina’s Complete Clean especially loves when you can open the windows during a deep clean and let the fresh air in. That’s why we’ve put together a quick list of areas that homeowners often miss in spring cleaning, so your home can truly sparkle with no leftover winter germs.

1. Garbage Cans

You probably aren't in the habit of cleaning your garbage cans. After all, garbage can liners protect the can from the majority of the filth inside, so why bother? However, overflows, leaks, and foul odors can affect heavily used garbage cans, making it important to work it into your spring cleaning routine. To clean your garbage cans effectively, take them outside and apply an antibacterial cleaner to the inside and outside of the cans. After letting the cleaner sit for ten minutes, rinse the cans thoroughly and dry them before taking them back inside.

2. Under and Behind Appliances

We know, this one is tough! Appliances aren't exactly easy to move, so the spaces under and behind them get overlooked. However, various debris and a layer of grime is likely forming around your appliances, due to cooking and food residue. Enlist some muscle, move your refrigerator, oven, and washing machine, and give the floor and walls a good scrub.

3. Mattresses

Your mattresses are constantly accumulating bacteria and, with flu season coming to an end, you definitely want to clean them for sanitary reasons. Luckily, it's pretty easy to do: simply spread baking soda over the entire mattress, let it sit for an hour, and then vacuum it thoroughly. For additional cleaning, you can also spray your mattress with Febreeze or pure rubbing alcohol.
